Although South Florida will likely be getting their leading receiver back for Thursday’s game against WVU, they will be without their quarterback, B.J. Daniels.
Tampa’s ABC affiliate is reporting this evening that backup quarterback Bobby Eveld will get his second straight start as the Bulls try to get bowl eligible in the final game of the year. Eveld started last week’s 34-24 loss to Louisville when it became clear Daniels’ shoulder injury, which he suffered in a loss to Miami, would keep him from seeing the field.
Althoug Daniels suited up for the UL game, he never played.
It’s a shame that Daniels has to end the season on such a sour note.
But, it may turn out to be beneficial to WVU. The Mountaineers need a win against USF to stay alive in the Big East’s BCS race; a win by Cincinnati over UConn Saturday would cement a BCS bid for the Mountaineers.
UPDATED 12:20 p.m. ET 12/1: USF has reiterated that no decision has been made on Daniels despite reports to the contrary. He will be a game-time decision.
Having Daniels would be a huge boost for the Bulls. As one of you already pointed out, Daniels absolutely torched WVU’s defense in Tampa back in 2009. The Mountaineers got the better of USF and Daniels last season -- then again, that ’10 WVU defense got the better of just about everybody -- but WVU has historically struggled against USF on the road.
