Leon Draisaitl already has 20 goals on the season over a mere 19 appearances. The last player to hit the 20-goal mark in fewer contests was Mario Lemieux in 1995-96 when he accomplished the feat in 18 games.
Meanwhile, Edmonton teammate Connor McDavid, who had his season-opening 17-game point streak snapped on Tuesday, is only four points behind Draisaitl for the league lead with 36 (14 goals, 22 assists) through 19 outings.
McDavid topped 400 career assists on Wednesday night. He became the fourth-fastest player to reach the milestone after needing only 426 games.

BOSTON 5 BUFFALO 1
The Bruins rebounded from Sunday’s shutout loss to Calgary with a decisive win over the Sabres.
After Kyle Okposo opened the scoring for Buffalo at the 10:56 mark of the first period, Boston struck back five unanswered.
Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak and Charlie Coyle posted one goal and one assist each as part of a five-goal first period between the two squads.
Nick Foligno collected two assists, while Craig Smith, Brad Marchand, Charlie McAvoy, Jakub Zboril and Rasmus Asplund chipped in one helper apiece.
Mike Reilly had the other goal for the Bruins along with a game-high six shots on target.
Jeremy Swayman stopped 24 shots for his sixth win in nine starts.
Aaron Dell was pulled after he surrendered four goals on 22 shots. Dustin Tokarski permitted one goal on 25 shots in relief.
PHILADELPHIA 1 FLORIDA 2 (OT)
The Panthers have won four straight games and 11 consecutive contests on home ice to start the 2021-22 campaign.
Aaron Ekblad netted the game winner 2:29 into overtime.
Jonathan Huberdeau and Sam Bennett, who had six shots on target each, assisted on Ekblad’s sixth of the season.
Joel Farabee opened the scoring for the Flyers at the 7:33 mark of the first frame. Travis Konecny and Ivan Provorov assisted on Farabee’s fifth of the year.
Bennett provided the game-tying tally just before the four-minute mark of the third period. He scored on a Florida power play from Anthony Duclair and Aaron Ekblad.
Sean Couturier had a game-high eight shots on goal.
Martin Jones was excellent in the losing effort with 43 saves on 45 shots.
Sergei Bobrovsky blocked 32 shots for his ninth win in 12 starts.
MINNESOTA 3 NEW JERSEY 2 (SO)
The Wild snapped a two-game winless slide with a shootout victory over the Devils.
Ryan Hartman and Nico Sturm, who scored shorthanded, gave Minnesota a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.
Hartman is up to 10 goals on the year.
Pavel Zacha, who has eight markers, and Yegor Sharangovich replied for New Jersey in the third period.
Zacha got the Devils on the board at the 3:08 mark, while Sharangovich tied the game with just over two minutes remaining.
Nico Hischier assisted on both goals to give him 10 apples on the season.
Mats Zuccarello, Frederick Gaudreau, Jonas Brodin, Dmitry Kulikov, Jesper Bratt and Tomas Tatar registered a helper each.
Kevin Fiala was the lone goal scorer in the shootout.
Cam Talbot blocked 40 of 42 shots for his 10th win in 15 starts. He also didn’t allow a goal on three attempts in the shootout.
Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 25 of 27 shots in the loss.
VANCOUVER 1 PITTSBURGH 4
The Penguins won for a fourth straight time on Wednesday.
Brock McGinn notched one goal and one assist in the contest. He sealed the deal with an empty-netter in the third period.
Bryan Rust opened the scoring 49 seconds into the second stanza with a power-play goal.
Evan Rodrigues and Zach Aston-Reese also scored for Pittsburgh in the middle frame.
Bo Horvat got Vancouver on the board at 14:52 of the third period and Luke Schenn picked up the lone assist.
Teddy Blueger recorded two helpers, while Kris Letang, Jake Guentzel and Marcus Pettersson contributed one apiece for the Penguins.
Thatcher Demko allowed three goals on 36 shots in the loss. He only has six wins through 16 starts.
MONTREAL 3 WASHINGTON 6
The Capitals bounced back from Sunday’s loss to Seattle with a win over the Canadiens.
Alex Ovechkin compiled three assists in the match to give him three goals and four helpers over a three-game point streak.
John Carlson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov and Nic Dowd generated one goal and one assist each for Washington.
Artturi Lehkonen and Jake Evans supplied one goal and one assist apiece for Montreal.
Brendan Gallagher, Nick Suzuki, Jonathan Drouin, Connor McMichael and Nick Jensen collected one helper each.
Ilya Samsonov made 25 saves for his fourth straight win.
Jake Allen allowed six goals on 34 shots in his return from a concussion.
WINNIPEG 0 COLUMBUS 3
The Blue Jackets won for a second game in a row following a shutout triumph over the Jets.
Elvis Merzlikins turned aside all 36 shots he faced for first shutout of the season and his eighth win in 11 starts.
Gregory Hofmann got what held up as the game winner at the 15:09 mark of the first period when he opened the scoring.
Zach Werenski potted a power-play goal early in the third period to add to the Columbus lead.
Andrew Peeke’s second career NHL goal was an empty-netter.
Max Domi, Jakub Voracek, Adam Boqvist, Vladislav Gavrikov and Alexandre Texier posted an assist each.
Connor Hellebuyck, who has a three-game winless skid, shielded 29 of 31 shots in the loss.
ST. LOUIS 2 DETROIT 4
The Red Wings snapped a four-game winless streak with a victory over the Blues.
Dylan Larkin produced one goal, which was his 10th of the year, and one assist in the contest. He has accumulated one point in each of his past six appearances.
Robby Fabbri also had one goal and one helper in the match. He sealed the match with an empty-netter.
Jordan Kyrou assisted on both goals by the Blues, which came from Pavel Buchnevich (power play) and David Perron.
Pius Suter, Tyler Bertuzzi, Vladislav Namestnikov, Nick Leddy, Filip Hronek, Scott Perunovich and Brandon Saad had one assist each.
Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 35 shots for his fifth victory of the season.
Ville Husso made 19 saves on 22 shots for his first loss in three starts.

NY RANGERS 4 NY ISLANDERS 1
The Rangers won for a second straight match, while extending the losing streak of the Islanders to seven straight contests.
Chris Kreider provided two goals. He opened the scoring 29 seconds into the second period during a Rangers power play. Kreider’s 15th goal of 2021-22 rounded out the scoring at the 11:02 mark of the third.
Kevin Rooney also tallied a pair of goals in the contest, which were both assisted by Ryan Reaves.
Andy Andreoff had the sole goal for the Islanders with assists going to Otto Koivula and Sebastian Aho.
Adam Fox, Mika Zibanejad, Kaapo Kakko, Barclay Goodrow, Ryan Strome and Patrik Nemeth picked up one helper apiece.
Igor Shesterkin stopped 20 shots for his 10th win of the season.
Semyon Varlamov made 17 saves on 21 shots in the loss. He is still looking for his first win of the year through five appearances, including four starts.
VEGAS 5 NASHVILLE 2
The Golden Knights rebounded from Monday’s 5-2 loss to St. Louis with a 5-2 win of their own.
Chandler Stephenson and Mark Stone notched one goal and one assist each.
Filip Forsberg scored both goals for the Predators in his first game back from a nine-game absence due to an upper-body injury. Roman Josi and Ryan Johansen assisted on Forsberg’s power-play marker.
Matt Duchene, Mattias Janmark, Keegan Kolesar and Max Pacioretty, who had not played since Oct. 14 because of a foot fracture, posted one assist each.
Jonas Rondbjerg and Adam Brooks scored for Vegas in the second period.
Alex Pietrangelo netted a shorthanded goal in the third period.
Robin Lehner blocked 26 shots for his ninth win in 16 starts.
Juuse Saros made 30 saves in the defeat.
ANAHEIM 2 COLORADO 5
The Avalanche stretched their current win streak to six straight games on Wednesday night.
Nazem Kadri accounted for one goal, which came on the man advantage, and one assist to extend his point streak to 10 consecutive contests. He also has a multi-point performance in five straight matches.
Sonny Milano potted both goals for the Ducks in the loss. He scored both times on Anaheim power plays.
Gabriel Landeskog and Jamie Drysdale chipped in two assists each.
Trevor Zegras, Rickard Rakell, Jayson Megna, Tyson Jost, Andre Burakovsky, Mikko Rantanen Erik Johnson, Devon Toews and Ryan Murray had a helper apiece.
Cale Makar, Valeri Nichushkin, Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Alex Newhook had the other goals in the game for Colorado.
Darcy Kuemper made five saves on six shots in 14:11 of work because of skate malfunctions. Jonas Johansson ended up playing most of the match as a result and he stopped 19 of 20 shots.
John Gibson allowed five goals on 36 shots in the loss. He has posted three losses in a row.

The Maple Leafs won for a second straight game and have seven victories in their past eight contests.
Auston Matthews, John Tavares and Pierre Engvall earned one goal and one assist each for Toronto.
Viktor Arvidsson and Sean Durzi, who made his NHL debut Wednesday against the team that originally drafted him, notched one goal and one assist apiece for Los Angeles.
Rasmus Sandin compiled three assists, while T.J. Brodie and Wayne Simmonds picked up two helpers apiece.
Ondrej Kase, William Nylander, Adrian Kempe and Anze Kopitar contributed one assist each.
Dustin Brown had a game-high seven shots on goal.
Jack Campbell turned aside 30 shots for his 11th win of the season.
Jonathan Quick surrendered six goals on 38 shots in the loss.
CAROLINA 1 SEATTLE 2
The Kraken have two wins in a row for the second time this season following a surprising victory over the Hurricanes on Wednesday.
Marcus Johansson snapped a 1-1 tie at the 16:52 mark of the third period and it held up as the game winner.
Jared McCann had Seattle’s other goal during a second-period power play.
Brendan Smith had the lone goal of the match for Carolina.
Vince Dunn, Yanni Gourde and Tony DeAngelo picked up one assist each.
Philipp Grubauer shielded 35 shots sixth win of the season.
Frederik Andersen stopped 20 shots for just his third loss through 14 starts.
EDMONTON 5 ARIZONA 3
The Oilers rebounded from Tuesday’s loss to Dallas with a victory over a Coyotes team that won two straight games for the first time this year.
Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid racked up four points each in the match. They both had two goals and two assists.
Zack Kassian and Clayton Keller registered one goal and two helpers apiece.
Travis Boyd and Shayne Gostisbehere had the other goals in the match for Arizona.
Tyson Barrie had two helpers, while Phil Kessel and Jakob Chychrun recorded one assist each.
Draisaitl had a game-high eight shots on goal and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was right behind him with seven.
Mikko Koskinen blocked 24 shots for his 10th win of the campaign.
Scott Wedgewood stopped 39 of 43 shots in the defeat.
OTTAWA 3 SAN JOSE 6
The Sharks won for a second straight time and handed the Senators a second straight loss following the team’s COVID-19 protocol pause.
Timo Meier led the way with three points, including two assists.
Logan Couture and Brady Tkachuk had one goal and one helper apiece, while Erik Karlsson and Thomas Chabot earned a pair of helpers each.
Tomas Hertl, Nick Bonino, Matt Nieto and Jacob Middleton also scored for San Jose.
Connor Brown and Josh Norris potted the other goals for Ottawa.
Tim Stutzle, Lassi Thomson, Artem Zub, Rudolfs Balcers, Andrew Cogliano, Kevin Labanc, Mario Ferraro and Marc-Edouard Vlasic collected an assist each.
James Reimer turned aside 26 shots for his sixth win of the year.
