SHANGHAI, China -- Vijay Singh will join world No. 1 Tiger Woods and other top golfers at next month’s Champions Tournament in Shanghai, Asia’s richest event ever with a $5 million purse, including $833,300 for first place.
‘It is an event we all want to win,’ the second-ranked Fijian said in a news release.
The Nov. 10-13 tournament, being held in Shanghai for the first time, also features Choi Kyung-ju, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour.
China’s booming golf scene will be represented by players including veteran Zhang Lianwei and teenager Mu Hu, who has been sharpening his game at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Florida.
Played at the rolling 7,140-yard Sheshan International Golf Club, the event is being co-sanctioned by the European Tour, the Asian Tour, the PGA Tour of Australasia, the Sunshine Tour and the China Golf Association.
All players ranked in the world top 50 as of Sept. 12 are eligible to compete in the head-to-head format tournament, along with special invitees.
