Another Seaside 65 gives Chappell RSM lead

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Kevin Chappell’s second-round 65 on Friday on the Seaside Course matched his personal record on the layout which he set last year in the final round of the RSM Classic.

Now his goal is to build on an already solid resume at the Sea Island Resort event.

Chappell tied for eighth here last year.

“I think for me it’s the sightlines work. The wind tends to blow out of one direction,” said Chappell, who leads Freddie Jacobson and Kevin Kisner by a stroke at 11 under. “There are a lot of things that are comforting to me and allow me to play well.”

Chappell’s tie for eighth last year marked his best finish of the season, along with a T-8 at the John Deere Classic, and he hopes to build on that momentum.

“I’ve taken the time to really look at the stats, and I improved a lot putting this last year,” said Chappell, who chipped in from 45 yards for eagle at the 15th hole on Friday.

“There is some improvement in other areas, if the putting stays improved. So I’m really going to commit to working on the pitching and bunker play and getting the ball in the hole when I don’t hit greens.”
