Day to begin Masters preparation late next week

AUSTIN, Texas – Jason Day stamped himself as the clear favorite for the Masters after winning his second PGA Tour event in a row Sunday.

His main challenge now is not trying too hard at Augusta.

“It’s one tournament that I’ve always wanted to win,” he said. “The motivation and the want is there.”

Day said that he will arrive in Augusta on Thursday and begin his tournament prep the next day.

“I can’t get comfortable with how I’m playing right now, and I can’t get lazy, because I’ve got to understand that what I’m doing is working,” he said. “I’ve got to keep working on the things that caused me to win over the last two weeks and keep doing that and then stay focused and hopefully put on the green jacket.”

No matter how Jordan Spieth fares next week in Houston, Day is assured of being the world No. 1 when he heads to the Masters.

“It will be fun to walk through the gates as No. 1 in the world,” he said.
