ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates – Officials this week at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship put their best foot forward, grouping world Nos. 1 Jordan Spieth, 3 Rory McIlroy and 6 Rickie Fowler together early Thursday morning.
While many have anticipated a Jordan-Rory rivalry this season, Folwer is often overlooked despite a stellar run the last two seasons. Last year, he won The Players in a dramatic playoff and the Deutsche Bank Championship, and in 2014 he finished in the top 5 at all four major championships.
Still, Fowler seemed to acknowledge on Tuesday that he still has one missing element before he goes into the same category as Spieth and McIlroy.

“I may not be ranked as high but I’m close,” Fowler said. “A major would help me to become a solid part of the talk.”
Joining the Grand Slam club continues to be Fowler’s focus going into this season after his solid finish last year at the Masters (T-12).
“I definitely feel like adding a major to the resume. It would be a huge step in the right direction,” he said. “The last two years have been very good steps for me to continue to move forward.”
