DORAL, Fla. – Rory McIlroy’s two-day tally of 73-74 at the Honda Classic may have been his worst back-to-back effort on the PGA Tour since last year’s WGC-Cadillac Championship, but the world No. 1 didn’t spend a lot of time lamenting his poor play.
“In fairness, if I was going to miss a weekend, it wasn’t a bad one to miss, being at home and with all the delays and everything,” McIlroy said Wednesday at Doral. “It gave me a bit of time to work on my game and work on what I needed to.”
It also gave him time to be with his mother, Rosie, on her birthday last Friday and grind his way through the swing issues that made playing in last week’s breeze such a problem.
McIlroy said he worked at home on Saturday and Sunday at The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Fla., before playing in Monday’s Seminole Pro-Member, where he shot 63 and easily won the gross division teamed with John Pinkham.

“I would play Seminole quite a lot when I’m at home, probably once a week,” he said of the venerable club located in Juno Beach, Fla. “To walk into that locker room all the time and have your name up there on the board, that Pro-Member board, it’s a pretty cool board to look at. You have all the greats of the game are basically up there.”
McIlroy made his 2015 Tour debut last week and said he struggled drawing the ball into the wind, which will also be tested this week at Doral where the wind is expected to gust to 20 mph throughout the tournament.
