BETHESDA, Md. – Technically, Tiger Woods had only one birdie during his pro-am round on Wednesday at the Quicken Loans National.
There was another birdie chance after he hit his approach shot to 3 feet at the 17th hole, but the tournament host let someone else handle the tap in.
U.S. Marines Master Gunnery Sgt. Anthony Russell, who was serving as a caddie during Wednesday’s pro-am, attempted the putt for Woods.

“That was really cool,” said Woods, who is playing his first Tour event since having back surgery on March 31. “He’s been here a couple times as honorary starter. He does a great job on the first tee. Put it this way, he’ll get your attention, which is great.”
The only problem Russell had with Woods’ putt was that he is left-handed and the former world No. 1 is not.
“I said, ‘Flip it over, go on the other side and putt it.’ But he didn’t do it,” Woods said. “He tried to putt it right-handed and missed it.”
