BROOKLINE, Mass. – Not long into his victory speech Sunday, Matt Fitzpatrick turned the attention to his trusty caddie.

His younger brother, Alex, had toted the bag for all seven days and nearly 150 holes of this 113th U.S. Amateur.

“I really have no idea how I’m going to repay you,” Matt Fitzpatrick said, much to the crowd’s delight.

Well, there is one way.

Alex, a 14-year-old who plays to a 2-handicap and is on the Under-16 English national team, has been coveting a new Scotty Cameron putter.

“I don’t know whether I’ll be able to get it for him,” Matt said. “We’ll just have to see.”

When told that he could simply purchase a replica of the Havemeyer Trophy to give as a gift, Fitzpatrick smiled and said, “I think he’ll pass on that one. I think he’d rather have the (putter).”
