AUGUSTA, Ga. – History favors Rory McIlroy with his four-shot lead.

According to the Masters’ media guide, only three players have taken a lead of four shots or better into the final round and lost:

1956: Amateur Ken Venturi led by four shots and closed with an 80, opening the door for Jack Burke Jr. to win.

1979: Ed Sneed led by five shots and bogeyed the final three holes, allowing Fuzzy Zoeller to go on and win in a playoff in his first Masters’ start.

1996: Greg Norman led by six shots and closed with a 78, opening the door for Nick Faldo to win the last of his three green jackets.
