ORLANDO, Fla. – Phil Mickelson may have struggled his way home to a Sunday 73 at Bay Hill with bogeys on three of his five final holes, but he’s feeling good about his game heading into the Masters.
“I played really well,” Mickelson said of his week. “I hit a lot of good shots the last couple of days, especially, and I’m looking forward to getting to Augusta the next couple days and then heading over to Houston and will hopefully play well.”
Lefty admitted he went at some pins in the final round he shouldn’t have because of Bay Hill’s difficult setup. He also offered a take on the back-nine Sunday struggles of some of the not-so-experienced players at the top of this week’s leaderboard.
‘It’s usually a bit of a learning curve and what it’s set up today on Sunday is nothing like Thursday, Friday,” Mickelson said. “Sunday is set up to have guys come back and it’s evident with the pins here.” It just changes your thought process from aggression to defense and sometimes that takes a little getting used to.”
