AUGUSTA, Ga. – Phil Mickelson nearly scored a PGA Tour first with his run of eagles Saturday at the Masters.
There is no record of any player making three consecutive eagles in PGA Tour records dating back to 1983.
Mickelson eagled the 13th hole at Augusta National Saturday after slamming a 7-iron to 8 feet and making the putt, eagled the 14th holing a pitching wedge from 141 yards and nearly eagled the 15th with his wedge from 87 yards curling inches from the hole.
PGA Tour records show 61 back-to-back eagles since 1983. Mickelson has now done it three times, more than anyone else. Mickelson did it at the 13th and 14th holes in the fourth round of the Buick Open in 2001 and at the sixth and seventh holes of the British Open that same year at Royal Lytham & St. Annes.
Five other players have recorded back-to-back eagles twice in their careers: Bill Briton, Scott McCarron, Joe Ogilvie, Kenny Perry and David Toms.
