Woods’ return still undecided as WGC-Bridgestone nears

With Friday’s 5 p.m. (ET) deadline looming, speculation over whether Tiger Woods will play next week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational has become talking point No. 1.

Woods said at the AT&T National earlier this month that “it’s time to actually have a different approach,” and some have speculated that he will likely err on the side of caution in order to allow his left knee and Achilles injury to fully heal.

That would likely mean he would skip next week’s World Golf Championship event in Ohio, a no-cut tournament that he’s won seven times in 11 starts, and possibly the PGA Championship in two weeks at Atlanta Athletic Club.

Although Woods has not made any indication whether he will play the Bridgestone, his swing coach, Sean Foley, confirmed on Wednesday via text message that he and Woods have not worked on his rebuilt golf swing since The Players Championship, where Woods withdrew after nine holes due to his injuries.

“I have seen him since then but we have just been chatting and setting a game plan for the future,” Foley said. “This time off has been an excellent opportunity for us to put in place a plan with the big picture in mind.”

While Woods and Foley have not worked together over the last six weeks, that doesn’t mean that Woods hasn’t been practicing his swing on his own at his new compound in Jupiter, Fla. Like most things involving Tiger’s life nowadays, it’s all speculation until he decides to clear up things.
