TODAY’S TOPICS
- Record Set at CVS: Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar posted a second-round 60 to back up their opening 58 en route to victory at 13th CVS Caremark Charity Classic, the duo bested the previous tournament record by one-shot reaching 24 under par through 36 holes.
- Vacation Time: Rory McIlroy will be taking the next three weeks off as he has landed at London’s Heathrow airport yesterday, and is expected to make a triumphant return to Holywood, Northern Ireland later today, his next start will be July 14 at Royal St. Georges for the Open Championship.
- Elementary my Dear Watson: 39-time PGA Tour winner Tom Watson didn’t diminish the record setting performance of Rory McIlroy, but he was critical of the course setup at last weeks U.S. Open saying ‘I feel like it should be a little tougher than that. When I played there was no first cut of rough, couple that with soft greens and it makes for low scores.’
- Wimbledon Underway: Play continues today at the All England Lawn & Tennis Club with Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Serena Williams amongst the names moving onto the second round. The rematch of last years epic, record setting three-day match between John Isner & Nicolas Mahut proved to be short lived as Isnner needed only about two hours for a straight set victory.
