RENO, Nev. ' In an effort to draw more fans, tournament organizers invited Michelle Wie to play the Reno-Tahoe Open this week.
Wie has not had the best of seasons on the LPGA as she has made the cut three times, missed two cuts and was disqualified in her last start at the State Farm Classic.
The event will be without 2007 champion Steve Flesch, who will tee it up at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Flesch opened with a nine-under 63, then cruised to a five-shot win over Charles Warren and Kevin Stadler.
The field this week includes former PGA Tour winners David Duval, Steve Elkington, Jason Gore, Lee Janzen, Larry Mize and Kirk Triplett.
The Golf Channel will cover all four rounds.
