Womens Sr Amateur Delayed

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- The second round of stroke play at the 45th USGA Senior Women’s Amateur was suspended late in the round Sunday due to darkness. The round will be completed Monday morning before the match play portion of the event begins.

Carolyn Creekmore is one of nine players that did not complete her round. She had been 4-over par through nine holes of her second round.

The nine players who failed to complete their second round will resume play at 10:15 a.m. (ET) Monday. The field will then be cut to the top 64 scorers for match play.

The cut will either come at 173 or 172. Once the cut is made, the first round of match play will begin. If the cut falls at 172, it will tie the highest cut in Senior Women’s Amateur history.

Robin Donnelley was the clubhouse leader at 6-over-par 150. She carded an eagle and two birdies on her way to the clubhouse in the second round.

‘I’m enjoying it,’ said Donnelley, who won the 1989 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur and played on three USA Curtis Cup teams. ‘I’m playing against my peers now and they’re even calling me a rookie. It’s the camaraderie that’s kept me in amateur golf for so long. I even put new shafts in my woods to make them lighter because I’m old now. It worked. I’m hitting my driver really good.’

Carol Semple Thompson, four-time winner of this event, is five strokes behind Donnelley after rounds of 80-75. Martha Lang is one stroke behind Semple Thompson at plus-12 at Pasatiempo Golf Club.

Reggie Parker posted rounds of 80-78 and is fourth in the clubhouse at 14-over-par 158. Karen Ferree is one stroke behind her at plus-15.

Marlene Streit, who became the oldest USGA champion at 69-years-old when she won this event last year, likely will survive the cut as she posted rounds of 86-86 and stands at 28-over-par 172.

The first round of match play will take place on Monday, with the second and third rounds scheduled for Tuesday. The quarterfinals and semifinals are slated for Wednesday with the 18-hole final to be played on Thursday.
