After Cristie Kerr prevailed Sunday over Suzann Pettersen in a classic battle between two of the most intense competitors in the LPGA ranks, she talked about the auras and mind games that come into play in head-to-head showdowns.
Kerr won the Kingsmill Championship with a par at the second sudden-death playoff hole.
“I was really just proud of the way I tried to just tend and take care of my own game today, especially with Suzann,” Kerr told reporters in the winner’s news conference. “She likes to try and intimidate people out there, but I’m not really that easily intimidated so I just took care of my own game.”

Kerr and Pettersen are both known for the intensity of their game faces between the ropes. They played 20 holes together in the final pairing Sunday. Kerr was asked how Pettersen specifically tries to intimidate.
“I don’t know, she just tries to stare down the shots,” Kerr said. “She does her own thing, so do I. We know each other well enough to know that we’re not going to intimidate each other out there.”
Kerr was then asked who is the most intimidating between the two of them.
“I probably shouldn’t have said that,” Kerr said. “She’s a great competitor. She’s a fierce competitor. She’s amazing to play with, and in Solheim, she’s fierce. You can never count her out. I can’t say enough about her, she’s a great player.”
