The best part of the Webb Simpson story is the fact that he shot 68-68 on the weekend to go from T29 to victory in two days. Everyone seemed to say that this was the hardest U.S. Open course since Oakmont in 2007 and the fact that Simpson was able to shoot 68-68 on such a hard course in his fifth Major Championship start is quite remarkable.
Webb Simpson seems to be someone who is at peace with himself and who he is as a person and as a golfer. Simpson is not someone who seems to get flustered very often and is someone who appreciates what is happening around him. His temperament is what helped him get through a very pressure-packed final round at The Olympic Club and Roberts thinks that he could be someone that can win multiple Majors in his career.
Casey Martin only played two rounds in the 2012 U.S. Open and after spending some time with him in Oregon, Roberts says that Martin seems to have a great sense of happiness with where he is in his life and what he is doing as head coach of Oregon’s golf team. While there is a part of him that he wishes he had played better years ago when he was on the PGA TOUR, Martin seems to be very content with where he is in his life.
Roberts will be attending the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association National Awards Dinner where a number of people will be honored this evening. One of the honorees this year is Tom Cousins who is a real estate developer from Atlanta, GA but is also the man who is responsible for the revitalization of East Lake Golf Club and the surrounding neighborhood in Atlanta. Roberts feels that Cousins is a very selfless man who has done great good for Atlanta and the game of golf and he even became a bit emotional while talking about him.
