SAN FRANCISCO – The U.S. Open’s most watched group has made the turn and they certainly have been interesting.
Tiger Woods made one birdie and one bogey in the first 10 holes – remember, they started on No. 9 because it’s much closer to the clubhouse than the 10th – and is at even par. Woods has looked fairly stress-free and has driven the ball beautifully. The only knock is that he’s struggled a little on distance control, particularly with wedge in his hand from inside 150 yards.

Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson have both been wildly inconsistent. Mickelson’s first shot of the day was way right and never fell out of a tree. He scrambled to make bogey. He opened with three consecutive bogeys, made two more with a lone birdie and turned at 4 over.
Watson has been similar to Mickelson – all over the place. The Masters champ made four bogeys, one birdie and a messy double bogey on the 18th hole.
