    Falcons waived DT Jimmy Staten.
A 2014 fifth rounder, Staten has bounced around the league the last three years. Getting waived at this stage is a bad sign for his NFL future.

Seahawks signed fifth-round DT Jimmy Staten to a four-year contract.
Staten (6-foot-3, 311) played college ball at Middle Tennessee State. “We’d like to play him inside, at the three technique, and give us some good big-man play there,” coach Pete Carroll said of Staten after the draft. “We think he can play some at the five-technique (end spot) as a swing position for him, but we’d really like for him to really solidify a spot inside.”

Seahawks selected Middle Tennessee State DT Jimmy Staten with the No. 172 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.
A bit off the radar in Conference USA, Staten is a pure run stuffer. At 6-foot-3, 311 pounds, he’d be slight for a nose tackle in a 3-4, but could remain in the middle of the Seahawks’ hybrid 4-3, behind Brandon Mebane. Staten won’t be guaranteed to crack the Seahawks’ extremely deep 53-man roster, which already boasts an army of D-linemen.

Seahawks waived DT Jimmy Staten and QB B.J. Daniels.
A fifth-round pick, Staten couldn’t crack the Seahawks’ loaded defensive line. He’ll be stashed on the practice squad if he clears waivers. With the release of Daniels, Seattle is going with only Tarvaris Jackson behind Russell Wilson.
