Once upon a time Michael Ynoa was an incredibly promising prospect who signed with the A’s for a record $4.25 million as a 16-year-old, but his career has been wrecked by injuries and now there’s another stumbling block: Chicken pox.
Ynoa, who’s now 21 years old and was added to the 40-man roster despite having just 39 innings of professional experience, is the lone player missing from A’s camp because “he’s stuck at home in the Dominican Republic for another 6-10 business days” recuperating, according to Casey Pratt of CSNBayArea.com.
Ynoa has basically no chance to actually make the team out of spring training, so showing up a couple weeks late isn’t such a big deal, but the kid needs to catch a break at some point. And chicken pox at age 21 doesn’t sound pretty.
