Mets third baseman David Wright began a minor-league rehab assignment Monday at Single-A by going 1-for-3 with a walk.

Wright, who’s been on the disabled list since mid-April with a hamstring strain and spinal stenosis, started at designated hitter for the St. Lucie Mets.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that he’s scheduled to play five innings defensively at third base Tuesday and based on the seven-time All-Star’s comments it sounds like he’s hoping to rejoin the Mets as soon as next week.
