The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed starter Gerrit Cole on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, with a right triceps muscle strain. They had thought that maybe he’d do better with a couple of days of rest, but he’ll need a bit more time.

Cole left his start Friday due to the injury. The Pirates are optimistic, however, that he’ll be ready to return when he’s first eligible. Jameson Taillon has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and will start Tuesday night against the Mets in New York.

Not great news. The Pirates have lost 10 of 13 and now sit 11.5 back of the Cubs.
