It’s been one week since Jonathan Lucroy suffered a concussion and the Brewers catcher continues to experience symptoms, telling Adam McCalvy of MLB.com that there’s been no improvement in his condition.
Initially both Lucroy and the Brewers seemed optimistic that the foul tip to the mask last Tuesday would not result in a significant absence, but as is so often the case with brain injuries it’s unpredictable.
At this point it would seemingly make sense for the Brewers to simply shut down Lucroy and prevent any further damage from taking place while also giving him as much time as possible to recover before next season.
If he’s indeed done for the season Lucroy would finish the year hitting .259 with seven homers and a .712 OPS in 94 games, which is a far cry from his combined .831 OPS from 2012-2014.
