We learned yesterday that Josh Beckett was scratched from his scheduled start Sunday due to right shoulder inflammation. Now he’s DL-bound.

The severity of the issue isn’t yet known, but Beckett will be eligible to rejoin the Red Sox before the end of the month. It’s another tough blow for a team that is having troubling digging their way out of the cellar in the American League East. The Red Sox have lost eight out of their 11 games to fall to 31-33 on the year.

Franklin Morales is scheduled to start in Beckett’s place Sunday against the Cubs. The 26-year-old southpaw has pitched exclusively in relief during his time with the Red Sox and hasn’t started a game in the big leagues since 2009 as a member of the Rockies.
