Maybe this happens all the time and we just don’t hear about it, but Red Sox manager John Farrell admitted just now that the team has Brandon Workman lined up to start Wednesday’s game in case scheduled starter Jon Lester is traded before then.

When combined with today’s rumors that the odds of the Red Sox trading Lester have increased ... well, there’s suddenly quite a bit of smoke behind the impending free agent possibly being on the move.

Workman was in the Red Sox’s rotation for most of the season, but got demoted to Triple-A two weeks ago. He tossed six innings of one-run ball there Thursday.
