Well, at least the Red Sox won’t lose tonight.

According to the Associated Press, tonight’s game between the Red Sox and Yankees has been postponed due to rain.

The teams will make it up as part of a split doubleheader on Sunday. The regularly scheduled game will start at 1 p.m. ET while the nightcap will kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Tonight’s scheduled starters Jon Lester and Freddy Garcia will start tomorrow’s game, which begins at 4:10 p.m. According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the Red Sox pushed for the doubleheader because they were concerned about starting tonight’s game and then losing Lester due to a potential rain delay.

The big takeaway here is that this could throw a wrench in Boston’s plans to have Lester start the season finale next Wednesday, as he would be going on short rest. Of course, if they take care of business over the next few days, this will all be rendered moot.
