MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger reports that the Twins are calling up outfielder Byron Buxton from Double-A Chattanooga. He’ll be available for Sunday afternoon’s game against the Rangers and a corresponding roster move will be announced then. Buxton was rated baseball’s #1 overall prospect by MLB.com and Baseball Prospectus entering each of the last two seasons.

Buxton, 21, was taken by the Twins in the first round -- second overall -- in the 2012 draft. Carlos Correa, who made his major league debut recently, was taken by the Astros ahead of him.

Buxton was batting .283/.351/.489 with six home runs, 37 RBI, and 20 stolen bases in 268 plate appearances in the minor leagues this season.

The Twins are light on outfielders with Aaron Hicks suffering from a right elbow injury and Torii Hunter serving a two-game suspension.
