  • NYM Catcher #4
William Arroyo, the main agent for the Bad Bunny-led agency Rimas Sports, had his MLBPA certification revoked, ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez reports.
A union invesitgation found complaints from other agents about improper benefits given to players under the agency, according to the report. Rimas Sports, which was launched around this time last year by Puerto Rican rapper and singer Bad Bunny, focused on signing Latin American players such as Francisco Alvarez, Ezequiel Tovar, Santiago Espinal, Mets INF prospect Ronny Mauricio and Los Angeles Dodgers C prospect Diego Cartaya. “At Rimas Sports, we uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity of our industry,” the company said in a statement. “Out of respect for an ongoing process within the context of the MLBPA Agent Regulations, we will refrain from making any comments at this time. We remain committed to continue serving our clients with excellence.” The agency has the right to appeal, but there is no word if Arroyo will challenge the decision made by the MLBPA.

Mets placed INF Ronny Mauricio on the 60-day injured list.
The procedural move earlier this week opened up a spot on New York’s 40-man roster for reliever Shintaro Fujinami. The 22-year-old infielder is expected to be out for at least 6-8 months after undergoing surgery back in early January to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.

Ronny Mauricio will be out 6-8 months after undergoing surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.
Mauricio was injured while running the bases in a Dominican Winter League game last month. Odds are that he’ll miss the entire major league season, but there’s an outside chance he could get into games in September or maybe play in the Arizona Fall League.

SNY.tv’s Andy Martino reports Ronny Mauricio will undergo surgery after being diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee.
It’s the worst-case scenario outcome as Mauricio will miss the overwhelming majority, if not all, of the impending 2024 campaign. The dynamic 22-year-old top prospect, who posted a respectable .643 OPS with two homers and seven steals in a brief 26-game cameo last season for the Mets, suffered the injury last weekend on the basepaths while playing in a Dominican Winter League contest. His absence opens up a clear path for fellow top prospects Brett Baty and Mark Vientos to open next season as New York’s primary third base options.

The Athletic’s Will Sammon reports Ronny Mauricio has left the Dominican Republic to undergo additional testing after suffering a right knee injury.
Mauricio suffered an apparent right knee injury when he made an abrupt stop while running the bases on Sunday in a Dominican Winter League contest. There should be some clarity on his status at some point in the coming days, but there’s definitely reason for concern at the moment. The 22-year-old is expected to compete in spring training with former top prospect Brett Baty for the Mets’ starting third base job.

Ronny Mauricio left Sunday’s Dominican Winter League game with an apparent leg injury sustained running the bases.
Mauricio was starting to steal second, but he changed his mind after a few steps and then went down awkwardly. He was able to walk off the field without assistance, but he still seemed to be in some pain. There should be an update at some point today.

Ronny Mauricio went 4-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBI on Friday in Dominican Winter League action.
The bad news? Mauricio committed three errors at third base on Friday evening as well. The 22-year-old is an extremely intriguing offensive performer, but doesn’t appear to have a clear path to a defensive home in New York. That could change this spring, but the recent addition of veteran Joey Wendle in free agency creates another obstacle to everyday at-bats.

Ronny Mauricio will make his Dominican Winter League debut on Thursday.
Mauricio will take the field at the hot corner for the Tigers del Licey this offseason as he prepares to compete next spring for a spot on New York’s season-opening roster. The 22-year-old prospect turned heads in his late-season debut during the 2023 campaign, posting two homers and seven steals in 26 games for the Mets down the home stretch. He’ll generate plenty of buzz next spring as a late-round sleeper candidate with a strong performance in Grapefruit League action.

Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said this week that Ronny Mauricio will play third base in the Dominican Winter League.
Mauricio parlayed some stratospheric power/speed combo production at Triple-A into an impressive late-season cameo for the Mets, posting a .643 OPS with two homers and seven steals in 26 contests. The 22-year-old added some extra defensive versatility to his game this past season to open up avenues to regular at-bats and it looks like he could usurp top prospect Brett Baty at the hot corner. He’s more likely to make an impact for fantasy managers in the stolen base department next season, but figures to be relevant in deeper mixed leagues.

Ronny Mauricio went 1-for-3 with a single and a stolen base in Sunday’s season-ending loss to the Phillies.
Mauricio cooled off considerably down the stretch, but he went a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen bases and showed off some impressive power at times. He saw time at both second base and third base after his call-up, which are both potential spots for him next season. How it plays out will all depend on what new president of baseball operations David Stearns thinks, but Mauricio is a name to watch in fantasy leagues.
