It probably went down something like this: The Washington Wizards called the Minnesota Timberwolves to inquire about what it would take to get the No. 2 pick (because likely No. 2 pick Derrick Williams would look good running on the break next to John Wall). The Timberwolves thought about it.
Then they asked for JaVale McGee.
That’s the end of that, according to Michael Lee at the Washington Post.
McGee would be three at worst, probably two in the conversation for one. And McGee is a guy whose athleticism also is a good fit next to Wall, plus McGee is just 23 and still improving (and maturing, which is the larger issue). There are no centers in this draft near as good as McGee, and if you’re going to trade him for a smaller player the smaller player better be amazing. This is not that kind of draft.
Now, if they Wolves will take on Andre Blatche.....
