St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong remains confident he will be able to sign defenseman Alex Pietrangelo.
The 23-year-old Pietrangelo, fresh off his third full season with the Blues, is a restricted free agent.
His previous contract, a three-year entry-level deal, came with an NHL salary of $787,500 in the final two years, according to Capgeek.com.
It also paid him $2.35 million per season in bonus.
In 47 regular season games in 2013, Pietrangelo scored five goals and had 24 points. He’s been a consistent point-producer on the Blues’ blue line since he became a full-time member of the St. Louis lineup.
“We are going to do what is necessary to get him signed,” said Armstrong, as per a tweet from Lou Korac, who covers the Blues for NHL.com.

Earlier on Friday, the Blues agreed to terms with another of their restricted free agents - forward Chris Stewart to a two-year, $8.3 million deal.
