Meet Bill Foley, the man who wants to bring the NHL to Vegas

Vegas Strip Arena-Groundbreaking

Officials are set to break ground Thursday, May 1, 2014, on this new, 20,000-seat arena along the Las Vegas Strip that would improve the city’s chances of attracting professional sports teams. Good read here from’s Scott Burnside, who caught up with Bill Foley, the man who will be launching a ticket drive to gauge Las Vegas’ interest in an NHL team.

If there was a money quote, it was probably this one:

“I don’t want to see everyone in the stands with a Canucks jersey on.”

Translation: the team has to be supported by Las Vegans, not tourists.

And with no history of major-league sports to use as a baseline, Foley concedes that Sin City remains an “unproven market.”

Hence, the ticket drive.
