Yes, the latest NHL lockout is over. Good. Fine. But can the players compete in the 2014 Games in Sochi next winter? The answer: We have no idea.

The league’s deputy commissioner, Bill Daly, told the Washington Post Sunday that the Olympics was “not part of the CBA” despite the marathon session to pound out the final details of the deal.

Since this is a tentative agreement, Olympic details may not be included until the final handshake. If not, those will have to be addressed as soon as possible.

Russians stars Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin have expressed their desire to compete in Sochi next winter, with Ovechkin threatening to leave the league if he’s barred from playing in his home country’s Games.
