You may remember Chen Guanming from the Beijing and London Olympics.
The Chinese farmer traveled via his rickshaw across his home nation to the 2008 Games. He then traveled across 16 countries, some 37,000 miles, in just over two years, to make it to the 2012 Olympics.
“I’m a big fan of Olympic Games,” he told the BBC in 2012.
Now, Chen, in his high 50s, is embarking from Canada to Rio de Janeiro for his third Olympic appearance in 2016, according to Chinese and British reports, most recently the People’s Daily.
“He wants to go through the Rockies to Vancouver, where there’s a huge Chinese community,” insurance broker John Beeston, who is helping Chen, told the BBC. “He also plans to criss-cross America. I’ve told him about their cold winters, wolves and bears, but Chen’s not fazed. He’s seen them all before.”
