Torch used to light Rio Olympic cauldron auctioned

The torch used by Vanderlei de Lima to light the Rio Olympic cauldron at the Opening Ceremony was auctioned for about $65,000 (plus applicable fees) on Wednesday night.

The piece, autographed by the 2004 Olympic marathon bronze medalist, was the highlight of the Rio 2016 Official Auction that has included thousands of items from the first Games in South America, according to Rio 2016.

Bidding had been open since August.
