It appears Mark Brunell will win the job, but coach Joe Gibbs is sticking to his original rotation. Gibbs says no decision has yet been made about the team’s starting QB.

He’ll have to play very well to get consideration for the starting job next year. His arm strength should help Rod Gardner and Laveranues Coles’ yardage totals.

“The assumption he’s not playing,” Gibbs said, “is a bad assumption.” Ramsey and his agent may demand a trade anyway, but it looks like the Redskins will go into camp with both quarterbacks.

It’s too early to panic, but the Redskins passing offense doesn’t look any better this season on paper.

The Redskins first and second-team offense scored three points in the first half. Jason Campbell was a little better than Ramsey in relief, but the rookie is only a candidate to start if the regular season implodes.

Ramsey needs a confidence-booster. Another poor outing and the Mark Brunell talk in Washington may get louder.

The report probably won’t be confirmed by the Jets, but the team has been impressed with Pennington’s progress. The preseason could affect things, but Ramsey looks like the team’s backup with rookie Kellen Clemens also struggling in camp.

The Jets’ quarterback race is open to the best performer. Chad Pennington is still ailing while rookie Kellen Clemens, the underdog of the group, has been looking sharp.

With second-round pick Kellen Clemens and Chad Pennington the only locks to make the roster, Ramsey’s play has reportedly been disappointing and he’s outwardly shown frustration with himself. Clemens has been the most impressive of the four quarterbacks competing.

He didn’t make up much ground on Chad Pennington, who missed the game because of an illness in the family. Ramsey moved the ball, but looked tentative, took sacks, and didn’t attempt a pass beyond five yards.
