Okay, so Vincent Tan appearing on British TV station Sky Sports News on Monday and saying he “may invest in MLS” doesn’t seem to be wide of the mark. Not at all.

On Tuesday SI.com are reporting that Cardiff City’s owner, along with the co-owner of the LA Dodgers and Golden State Warriors, Peter Guber, plus Henry Nguyen and Tom Penn have formed a group which will take over the Chivas USA franchise which is currently owned by Major League Soccer.
Chivas were bought by the league earlier this year as their struggles as LA’s second MLS team continues. Reports earlier this week from ESPN suggested that Chivas would take a two-year hiatus from the league before being relaunched, but SI’s report suggests Chivas would be dissolved and an entirely new team would be floated under the ownership group who will spend over $100 million to get their hands on an MLS franchise. That would be a new record fee for an expansion franchise.
