Hired by Arizona State in mid-December of 2011, Chris Thomsen lasted just two months with the Sun Devils before bolting for a job at Texas Tech.
Nearly a year later, Thomsen is back with the Sun Devils.
ASU announced via a press release that Thomsen has been hired as an assistant on Todd Graham‘s coaching staff. Thomsen, who spent the 2012 season as the Red Raiders’ offensive line coach, will handle the Sun Devils’ running backs.
“Chris has proven himself at all levels of college football and now he has a chance to show the rest of the Pac-12 what he is capable of,” said Graham in a statement. “I’m really looking forward to having Chris back on our staff and I can’t wait to see what he has in store for our running game next season.”
Prior to his very brief initial stint at ASU, Thomsen spent the previous seven seasons as head coach of the Division II Abilene Christian. Last season at Tech was his first spent coaching at the FBS level.
After Tommy Tuberville abruptly bolted for Cincinnati, Thomsen took over as interim head coach for Tech’s bowl game. The Red Raiders rallied late to beat Minnesota in the Insight Bowl.
