Bill Stewart debunks retirement rumors

Late last night, it was reported that Bill Stewart was either retiring or contemplating retiring as West Virginia’s head coach.

The school had yet to comment on the report but, just a short time ago, Stewart took to Twitter and very loudly shot down the retirement rumors.

Reports of my retirement are exaggerated ... I have no intention of walking away ... I am not focusing on retirement ... Focus is Rutgers.

Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean Stewart will be back in 2011 as the school could decide to make him an involuntary retiree, or if he ultimately has a change of heart -- with the help of the administration -- and decides to step away from the game. For now, though, it appears Stewart will return for a fourth season as the Mountaineers head coach.

Unless he doesn’t, of course.

UPDATED 2:29 p.m. ET: Stewart also addressed the retirement rumors at the top of his Sunday press conference.

“First and foremost, let me begin by saying the reports of my retirement are greatly exaggerated. In fact, you’re hearing it directly from me, Bill Stewart - I have no intention of walking away. I’m not focusing on retirement. Lastly, and most importantly, I’m focusing on Rutgers.”
