Could USF be in the mix for Michael Dyer?

Yes, Michael Dyer is still looking for a new school. And now that the supplemental draft has come and gone, the college game is Dyer’s only real option for 2013.

In an interview with ESPN’s Joe Schad earlier this month, Dyer said he’s understandably been having a hard time finding programs interested in taking him given his off-the-field baggage. Dyer said he was interested in Arkansas, even if it meant walking on, but the Razorbacks have not reciprocated any interest. Dyer’s been away from the game for a year as well. In 2012, he landed at Arkansas Baptist, where he sat out the football season to focus on academics.

The few schools reportedly interested in Dyer in any way were Western Kentucky, Troy, and FCS-level Illinois State.

Could USF be another? Schad tweeted Sunday evening that Dyer was in Tampa this weekend and that “USF is a school to watch” for Dyer going forward.

New Bulls coach Willie Taggart has a recent history of strong running games from his time at Western Kentucky and Stanford, and Dyer, despite his off-the-field concerns, is a proven workhorse on the field. USF could use an upgrade in the department right now as senior Marcus Shaw is the team’s leading returning rusher with 248 yards last season.
