Nebraska running back Maurice Washington was previously scheduled to attend a court hearing in California in mid-June. That hearing will now take place in July, according to a report from Lincoln Journal Star.
According to the report, the court date was pushed back to July 25 to accommodate a recent discovery request. It was not reported who filed for the discovery request prior to the rescheduled court date. Washington was originally scheduled to appear in court today (June 12) before the date was pushed back to next month.
Washington was previously arraigned on two charges in April; one felony and one misdemeanor in connection to alleged revenge-porn violations in the state of California, Washington’s home state. While waiting for his legal issue to push forward, Washington found another way to get into some legal hot water this spring. Earlier this month, Washington was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Washington rushed for 455 yards and three touchdowns for the Huskers last fall. He also added 24 receptions for 221 receiving yards. Due to the legal cloud hovering above him this offseason, Washington was a limited participant in spring practices as head coach Scott Frost and the Nebraska coaching staff continue to allow the legal process to play out before making any decisions on Washington’s status with the program. Washington’s new court date will be held one week prior to the start of Nebraska’s preseason training camp in Lincoln.
