Whether because of injury or transfer -- or a five-star non-qualifier -- Michigan spent most of the 2010 calendar year licking their personnel wounds in the defensive backfield.
Unfortunately for new head coach Brady Hoke, the DB “issue” apparently wasn’t booted out the same door as was his predecessor.
Hoke confirmed Wednesday afternoon that sophomore Ray Vinopal has left the team for family reasons. The safety has subsequently returned to his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio.
Last season, and large part because of the massive attrition that hit the unit, Vinopal started six of the 13 games in which he played.
Michigan, which began spring practice March 19, entered the sessions armed with the knowledge that two of their most veteran and talented DBs -- Troy Woolfolk and J.T. Floyd (no relation) -- would be very limited as they continue recovering from injuries.
