Hatch not done with the BCS

Even though his beloved Utah Utes have been included in the BCS festivities with their invitation to the Pac-10, that won’t stop Utah senator Orrin Hatch from continuing his assault on the Bowl Championship Series.

“Utah moving to the Pac-10 doesn’t mean the BCS has suddenly become a fair and equitable system,” Hatch told the Salt Lake Tribune. “I hope that my values don’t change on things just because we are on the inside looking out. My views didn’t change yesterday.”

The move to a BCS conference was also a bit of a shake-up for head coach Kyle Wittingham (who was named CFT’s national champion in 2008 after beating down Alabama in the 2008 Sugar Bowl). While the move to the Pac-10 will make a road to a BCS Championship smoother for the Utes, Wittingham was clear in his postseason preference.

“I’m a proponent of a playoff system and always have been,” Wittingham said. “With the structure of the BCS in place now, hopefully we can find a way to hammer it out.”

I can probably count on about 4,000 hands different examples of politicians changing directions when it no longer helps their constituents’ agendas, but lets hope that Orren Hatch’s pure hatred for the Bowl Championship Series outweighs the new conference affiliation of his favorite football team.
