Horned Frogs avert huge blow to defense

When linebacker Tank Carder underwent surgery to repair his damaged shoulder last week, it was thought that he could miss at least a portion of the early part of TCU’s 2010 season.

“We’re getting ready to lose maybe one of our best players for the early part of the season,” head coach Gary Patterson said at the time according to the Fort Worth Star Telegram. “We won’t know [the extent of the shoulder’s injury] until they get in [and look at it]. If you don’t have Tank’s leadership, then someone is going to have to learn how to step up here. Right now we don’t have those people.”

Fortunately for Patterson and his defensive coaching staff, it doesn’t appear that they’ll be looking to replace either his leadership or his on-field production.

According to ESPNDallas.com, Carder underwent successful surgery on the shoulder and, not only will the junior not miss the start of the regular season, but he’s expected to be available for the start of summer camp.

Carder was second on the team in tackles in 2009, and is TCU’s leading returning tackler.
