‘Horns move past Tide in coaches’ poll

Idle Alabama found itself falling in the USA Today coaches’ poll courtesy of Texas’ humbling of Oklahoma State last night, while USC really found itself tumbling in the latest release.

The Longhorns picked up four first-place votes to leapfrog the No. 3 Tide into the No. 2 hole behind still-No. 1 Florida and their 50 first-place votes.

Southern Cal took the biggest tumble of the week following their pasting at the hands of Oregon, going from No. 4 to No. 13. On the strength of that blowout win, the Ducks moved from No. 12 to No. 8.

TCU took advantage of the Trojans’ loss as they moved into the Top Five at No. 4. Boise State remained at No. 5, while Iowa inexplicably moved up two spots to No. 6.

No. 20 West Virginia, No. 21 South Carolina and No. 22 Mississippi dropped from the rankings, and were replace by No. 22 Wisconsin, No. 23 Cal and No. 25 Brigham Young.
