A little over three weeks after Dana Holgorsen left for Oklahoma State, head coach Kevin Sumlin has filled the void at offensive coordinator.
And while he didn’t have to look very far, he did have to double-up to fill the role of guiding the Cougars’ high-octane offense.
According to the Houston Chronicle, wide receivers coach Jason Phillips has been named offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kliff Kingsbury will carry the title of co-coordinator. “Continuity” played a big role in Sumlin deciding to stay in-house.
“I thought the continuity of our offense and our staff far exceeded going outside and hiring somebody,” Sumlin said. “It’s also a chance for us to keep the continuity of what we’re doing. I will continue to be involved.”
Phillips will handle the play-calling responsibilities, while Kingsbury will handle things like substitution groups according to the Chronicle.
Last season, UH led the nation in scoring and total offense.
