Illini lose hybrid starter for up to a month

When Illinois opens the 2010 season, they’ll do so without the services of junior Zach Becker, the Peoria Journal Star is reporting.

The fullback/tight end, head coach Ron Zook said, has a stress fracture in one of his feet and will miss the first three games of the season. Becker should return for the Big Ten opener against Ohio State in early October.

“He’ll be fine,” Zook said of Becker, who has already undergone surgery twice to repair stress fractures in his feet.

With Becker out of the lineup, the paper writes, sophomore London Davis and freshman Evan Wilson will split time at tight end, while freshman Jay Prosch will fill in at fullback.
