Illinois officially adds former Nebraska O-lineman

A little under a week after it first made its way on to CFT‘s Rumor Mill, the transfer of former Nebraska offensive lineman Ryan Klachko has become official.

Illinois announced the acquisition in a release on Wednesday afternoon. Klachko is originally from Springfield, Ill.

“Ryan was one of the top players in the state coming out of high school,” Beckman said in a prepared statement. “We’re happy to welcome Ryan back to Illinois, where he’ll be closer to his family and friends. After practicing with us this season, I look forward to him competing for playing time and providing depth on the offensive line starting in 2013.”

Klachko will have to sit out the 2012 season to satisfy NCAA transfer requirements. He will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2013.

The transfer is Illinois’ second along the offensive line this month. Former Penn State lineman Ryan Nowicki also transferred to the Illini and will be eligible to play immediately.
