Already suspended once during spring practice for violating team rules, Miami cornerback Keion Payne has now been booted from the team because of similar circumstances.
UM associate athletic director for communications, Chris Freet, confirmed Friday that Payne was no longer with the team and expects the soon-to-be sophomore to transfer. Payne was suspended earlier this month for a few days along with tackle Seantrel Henderson and linebacker Kelvin Cain for unspecified reasons.
This isn’t the first time Payne has been in trouble at Miami, either. The cornerback was one of six Hurricane players said to be suspended for the opening game of the 2011 season, with two separate reports pointing to academics and rules violations as the source of the suspension, respectively.
Payne appeared in two games last season but did not record any stats.
