Michigan State’s starting guard out 4-5 weeks with leg injury

Michigan State’s opening game against Boise State will very likely be played without Spartans offensive lineman Blake Treadwell.

Treadwell, a projected starter, sustained a hairline fracture in his tibia during a non-contact drill and will miss four to five weeks, per offensive coordinator Dan Roushar. The injury should leave redshirt freshman Jack Allen to start along Sparty’s O-line for most of the month of September.

Michigan State’s only other real challenging non-conference game during that span will be Notre Dame on Sept. 15 -- and Treadwell may be back in time for that game.
